Why So Many People Continue to Choose Bluffton and Hilton Head Island
One of the questions I'm asked most often is simple:
"How's the market?"
The answer remains largely unchanged from what we've been seeing over the past several years. The Bluffton, Hilton Head Island, and Okatie real estate markets continue to perform well.
Through the first five months of 2026, the number of home sales is up 3.6% compared to the same period last year. Home prices have also continued to rise, increasing 1.6% year-over-year. While every market experiences shifts and seasonal fluctuations, the overall trend remains positive.
The more interesting question I receive is:
"Why is the market so strong here?"
The answer isn't just one thing. It's a combination of factors that continue to attract buyers from across the country.

Hilton Head Island Continues to Receive National Recognition
For the ninth consecutive year, readers of Condé Nast Traveler selected Hilton Head Island as the #1 island in the United States.
What's remarkable about that distinction is the competition. The rankings include destinations throughout Hawaii, Florida, New England, and beyond. Yet year after year, Hilton Head continues to earn the top spot.
For many people, a visit to Hilton Head becomes something more. What begins as a vacation often turns into a conversation about owning a second home, relocating permanently, or spending more time in the Lowcountry.
That demand doesn't stop at the island itself. Buyers quickly discover the advantages of nearby communities in Bluffton, Okatie, and Hardeeville, where they can enjoy the same lifestyle while remaining just minutes from Hilton Head Island.
The Rise of Remote Work Continues to Shape the Market
Another major factor influencing our market is the continued growth of remote work.
Over the past several years, the ability to work from anywhere has fundamentally changed where people choose to live. More professionals are prioritizing quality of life, climate, outdoor recreation, and community when deciding where to call home.
We see this firsthand every month.
Families, couples, and individuals are relocating to the Lowcountry because they no longer need to live near a corporate office. Instead, they're choosing places that offer a better balance between work and lifestyle.
For many, that means living near the water, enjoying a warmer climate, and having access to the outdoor amenities that make this region unique.
More Than Just a Real Estate Market
Statistics help tell part of the story, but they don't explain everything.
The real strength of the Bluffton and Hilton Head market comes from the lifestyle itself.
Whether it's the beaches, golf, boating, dining, natural beauty, or simply the pace of life, people continue to discover what residents here already know. The Lowcountry offers something special. 7 reasons why Hilton Head Island should be on your bucket list!
It's why so many visitors become homeowners.
And it's why demand continues to remain strong year after year.
Looking Ahead
As we move further into 2026, we'll continue to monitor inventory levels, pricing trends, and buyer activity throughout Bluffton, Hilton Head Island, Okatie, and the surrounding communities.
For now, the story remains consistent: people continue to choose the Lowcountry, and the market continues to benefit from that demand.
