Before You Buy in the Lowcountry: Understanding HOA, POA, Transfer Fees & Assessments

You find two homes you love.

They're similarly priced, they're only fifteen minutes apart, and both are in beautiful Lowcountry communities.

Then you start looking at the fees.

One community has an annual POA fee. Another has an HOA fee plus a separate club membership. One has a one-time fee when you purchase. Another has an assessment you've never heard of.

Suddenly, comparing two $800,000 homes doesn't feel quite so simple.
