High Schools in Hilton Head Island, Bluffton and Beaufort

 

Hilton Head Island High School 

Hilton Head Island High School ranks among the top high schools in the region. It aims to prepare students to become productive and responsible citizens in a global technological age. The school provides a balanced, rigorous curriculum, and outstanding quality of teaching, while maintaining a disciplined and very academic environment. It promotes respect, tolerance, and trust in a multicultural setting, and fosters personal responsibility and the highest standards of student behavior.

Hilton Head Island High School offers an International Baccalaureate diploma program, which is committed to international education during the student’s final two years of secondary education. The subjects comprising the core of the IB curriculum are arranged in accordance with six groups, and the candidate is required to choose one subject from each group.

Bluffton High School 

Bluffton High School is one of the leading public high schools within the Beaufort County School District. The school, located in Bluffton, SC, was opened in 2004. It serves students in the mainland areas of southern Beaufort County, including Bluffton, Okatie, and Pritchardville.

Bluffton High School currently has 1,439 students in grades 10-12. The school gave away $2.5 million worth of scholarships to its students in 2010. 17 students received the Palmetto Fellows scholarship, while 97 students were awarded the LIFE scholarship.

Heritage Academy 

Heritage Academy on Hilton Head Island, SC, is another leading school in the region that has been imparting education to young men and women since 1993. It describes itself as a “refuge for teenagers with an extracurricular passion.” The school has three focus areas for the students. Students can commit to a passion in academics, athletics, and research, or the visual and performing arts. The Heritage Academy services local, national, and international students in grades 5-12 from 28 states and 27 countries. It grooms scholar-athletes and performing artists to achieve a spot on an NCAA sports team or an arts program.

Hilton Head Christian Academy 

Hilton Head Christian Academy offers education to Christian young men and women in the Hilton Head Island/Bluffton area. There is a strong emphasis on developing three things: a vital relationship with God, high academic skills and competitive athletics. It is the only school in Beaufort County that has accreditation from both the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). HHCA teaches 21st century skills in order to equip its students for success in college and in a competitive job market, which is more competitive than ever before due to the challenging economy.

Hilton Head Preparatory School

Hilton Head Preparatory School is one of the prominent schools on Hilton Head Island offering education from junior kindergarten through the twelfth grade. In addition to a rigorous academic curriculum, the school has a variety of co-curricular activities and some exceptional community service programs. It is the only school on Hilton Head Island that has fulfilled the demanding requirements to earn a membership position in the National Associations of Independent Schools (NAIS). Nestled between the Sea Pines Forest Preserve and the Atlantic Ocean, the school’s scenic 15-acre campus also allows for hands-on outdoor classrooms. The average student/teacher ratio at the school is 12:1.

Battery Creek High School 

Battery Creek High School or BC is one of the leading public high schools within the Beaufort County School District, located in Burton, SC. This high school serves students in suburbs of Beaufort, Burton, Shell Point, and Port Royal. In terms of academics, the curriculum of the school is divided into three academies: health science and information technology, military science and aeronautical engineering, and arts, and humanities. The Beaufort County School District designated Battery Creek as a military magnet high school in 2011.

Beaufort High School

Beaufort High School is another prominent high school located in Beaufort, SC, on Lady’s Island. It serves students in downtown areas of Port Royal and Beaufort, apart from students residing in St. Helena Island and Lady’s Island. The school adopted the “small schools” concept in 2010, under which it developed learning academies to help foster students into their career paths.

Whale Branch Early College High School

Whale Branch Early College High School is also a well-known Title I public high school located in Seabrook, SC. Students from across Beaufort County attend this school to earn college credit in selected courses. The facility was opened in 2010, and has entered into a partnership with the Technical College of Lowcountry, which helps students earn concurrent college credit for various courses while pursuing their high school diploma. At present, the Whale Branch Early College High School competes at the Class A level in the South Carolina High School League.
